DPU Delivery method, "Delivered at Place Unloaded", entered into force for the first time with Incoterms 2020. According to this delivery method, the seller company organizes the shipment to the address specified by the buyer.
DAT included in incoterms 2010 is deprecated. DPU incoterms has been used with 2020 and effective from 01.01.2020.
Delivered at Place Unloaded, DPU, "Delivery at Unloading Address" What is the Delivery Method?
In the form of DPU delivery, the seller, the exporter company, is responsible for the following transactions:
- Organizing the shipping vehicle and loading the export goods
- If intermediate shipping is required in the exporter's country
- If it is necessary to load to the ship at the port
- To deliver the freight to the customs point specified by the buyer in the country of the importer.
- To direct the means of transport to a terminal or a transport point specified by the buyer after the customs clearance is completed by the buyer.
For example, if delivery term: "DPU Nice Train Station" is specified in the contract or proforma invoice, an exporter company located in Istanbul will send the cargo loaded on a truck in Istanbul to the "Nice Train Station" address, which is the point specified by the importer, namely the buyer, is responsible for the shipping risks until the moment the freight arrives.
DPU mode of transport entered into force with incoterms 2020 instead of the DAT mode of transport in incoterms 2010.
How to Calculate DPU "Delivered at Place Unloaded" Price
When calculating the DPU price, the seller, ie the exporter company, adds the dividend, packaging cost, factory loading, customs costs, and freight cost on the cost of the product. The responsibility for insurance should be determined separately between the parties and added to the contract. In this way, the DPU price is determined.
DPU Price Calculation: Product cost + dividend + packaging + loading + internal shipping + customs charges + freight + insurance (if the exporter has committed to undertake insurance)
How DPU Delivery Method Applies
According to the DPU delivery method, the seller plans the shipment according to the deadline declared by the buyer. Before the shipment, the ETA (estimated arrival date) to be received from the transporter should be notified to the buyer, despite the possibility of delay in the truck, plane or ship terminal, the changes that may occur on the arrival date should be checked at certain intervals until the transport vehicle reaches the destination port or customs.
Responsibilities of Buyer and Seller in DPU Delivery Form:
Seller (Exporter)
The seller loads in his own facilities, organizes the domestic shipment and delivers the export cargo to the port, ensures that the cargo is loaded on the ship, completes the customs procedures, makes insurance if specified by the contract and organizes the shipment at his own expense.
Buyer (Importer)
The buyer is responsible for all costs and risks, including unloading operations and customs clearance in his own country, from the moment the vehicle carrying the cargo reaches its destination.
Changes
It is a form of delivery added to Incoterms 2020 to be used instead of the DAT used in Incoterms 2010.
