The US Education System
American primary and secondary schools are divided into elementary, middle school and junior high schools. This system is known as "K through 12" which means from kindergarten to the 12th grade. At the age of five, the children start kindergarten at the age of six and attend primary school until the 6th grade. The secondary school lasts from the sixth to the ninth, followed by the ninth-twelfth grade. The above sequence, which is followed up to the last year of high school, is standard, but it has many models in itself.
However, according to federal laws, compulsory education is available until the age of 16 years. In America, primary and secondary education works in three main systems. Public schools, which are not paid at all, are usually private schools run by religious groups and paid tuition fees.
Those who think they are a good teacher can choose the third way: to give education to their children. This option is called 'home schooling'.
Secondary education is completed in 12 years. To this end, there are three ways to complete the training:
1. 8-4 format
2. 6-3-3 format
3. 6-6 format
8-4 format: Eight years in this format (Elementary or Primary School) after reading the first school four years of high school (High school) is read.
6-3-3 format: With this method, only six years of primary school education is continued. High school is completed in two stages. Three years at Junior High School and three years at Senior High School.
6-6 format: This is almost like a 6-3-3 format but after six years of primary education it is read at the Junior-Senior High School of six years of high school. At the end of this training, students receive a High School Diploma.
High schools are generally autonomous. There is no Federal law governing the administration of these schools and the rules and regulations relating to these schools vary from state to state.
Some general rules: Gender is compulsory for all primary education, regardless of race, religion, learning problems, physical barriers, English speaking ability, citizenship or immigrant status.
Specific topics in curricula: Mathematics, language skills, science, social sciences and physical education. Some schools also teach children to computer.
High school students follow a very broad curriculum. In some high schools, students are divided into sections. Students who wish to attend college or university attend the related departments and take courses to prepare themselves for university. When high school is a student, the student makes a college application according to his / her chosen branch.
Reading high school in America is not as difficult as it seems. One of the first advantages that will come to mind for a Turkish student in America is the following: High school education in the United States will help you get rid of your English in the first place, giving you a noticeable fluency in your language as you read, write and speak.
As you will be far away from your family, you will gain the ability to take responsibility and act independently in less time than your peers. You will have a first degree knowledge of American culture and lifestyle.
You will have a good academic career with teachers who have a curriculum and friendly approach to improving your strength instead of rote education.
